Seattle, 1933. Single mother Vera Ray puts her three-year-old son Daniel to bed and kisses her as she leaves for the night shift at the local hotel where she works as a maid. She returns to find that a May blizzard has covered the town in snow and her boy has disappeared. On the frozen street, Vera finds his beloved teddy bear, and the snow sweeps away any traces of her child. Seattle, 2010. Reporter Claire Aldridge is assigned to write about the May Day "blackberry winter" (late spring cold). She learns about her doppelgnger from the past and the kidnapping that went unsolved, and vows to find the truth. It turns out that there are many unexpected parallels in the lives of these two women...
